What is Google Maps?
Google Maps is a navigation app or web-based service offered by Google. It provides real-time data from all over the world on geographical regions and locations. Google Maps also offers real-time traffic data for route planning, allowing users to travel from one destination to another in the shortest time by foot, bike, car, or public transportation. Other features included real-time updates for public transportation, new places exploration, and so forth.
Google Maps is relatively popular in Malaysia because of its reliability and high-accuracy data. There are more user-friendly features to discover in Google Maps than just navigating. Try it now!
How Useful is Google Maps?
1. Multiple Stops
You can utilize the multiple stops feature to plan their route from their current location to car pick-up location and lastly the car drop-off location. You are able to see how long the journey will take to complete the job and depart early if there is heavy traffic. This feature allows you to see the real-time traffic data and remove the struggles to find the fastest route to the locations.
To add multiple stops in Google Maps, tap the blue “GO” button on the bottom right corner, then enter the starting point and the final destination. Then, select “add stop” from the three dots on the upper right of the first location. Google Maps allows you to add up to nine stops. You are able to rearrange your destinations by dragging up or down the three stacked lines on the right of the locations.
2. Offline mode
Google Maps supports driving directions in offline mode, but not public transportation, bicycle, and walking directions. It is the best alternative when you have a weak connection or need to save battery. To use maps offline, you have to download the map area when you have internet access. With the downloaded map, you will be able to search and get directions offline. Downloading the offline maps may consume a lot of space on your device, do make sure you have enough storage. Besides, the downloaded sections also provide information about businesses.
Please keep in mind that you will not be able to get live traffic updates including alternative routes or lane assistance.
3. Find stop-offs along your route
Another feature of Google Maps includes finding stop-offs along your route. It is useful for refueling while you are on the job. You can easily add gas stations to their existing route while completing their job. The best part is you do not have to leave the navigation to do so.
After starting your navigation, tap on the magnifying glass on the right side of the app to search. Then, you can either select “petrol stations” or search for a specific petrol station name. The nearest petrol station will appear on the top of the map, then select “add stop” on the option you wish to go to.
4. Check traffic ahead of time
You may set an arrival time to check traffic ahead of time and avoid getting stuck in the traffic. With Google Maps, you are able to estimate the best time to leave your location so that you can arrive at their jobs on time.
To set the arrival time, enter the start location and final location as usual. On the first location, tap on the three dots on the upper right corner. Then, select “set depart or arrive time”. You can choose either “depart at” or “arrive by” and drag on the time and date. At this point, you are able to see the estimated time depending on the information you have provided.
5. Share location until you arrive
You are able to share the real-time location until you arrive at your destination. To relate, it is beneficial for dashers who take Trevo delivery, Buddy Driver and SOCAR+ jobs. You are able to share the real-time location with your customers, car owners, family, or friends to let them know where you are and the ETA. Nonetheless, rather than risking your life by texting on the phone, you may share your location in only a few taps without leaving the app.
Firstly, fill in your starting location and your destination. Then click on the three dots on the right corner of your starting location, and select “share directions”. Easy as that!
